Jake 'Snake'

Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals

Jake was raised with music in his blood and started young, playing mandolin in his dad's dance band. He went on to play harp in a blues band and then things got out of hand; he soon became a virtuoso on several stringed instruments playing Irish, Cajun and bluegrass. In Wakin' Snakes he has free rein to express his considerable talent, but let's not forget that this mean looking critter builds carved top mandolins in his spare time - with an angle grinder!

Lead Vocals, Mandolin, Fiddle

Starting out as a chorister aged 8, he was next seen performing professionally at 19 playing fiddle and mandolin in tights in a medieval banqueting hall in Charing Cross Road. Having travelled extensively in Europe and Africa with a mandolin on his back, he has since had an uninterrupted career playing many styles of music from Irish folk to Cajun and bluegrass on a variety of stringed instruments.

Bass, Vocals

Hot from the American Civil War, this Rebel soldier is another multi-instrumentalist with a history of professional engagements. He sticks to bass with Wakin' Snakes and complements it with superb high vocal harmonies but will break out on tenor banjo, accordian or mandolin if it gets Irish and acoustic at the end of a gig.

Percussion, Vocals

First seen on television in his early 20s playing recorder as he set off for his round Britain coastline walk. 7,000 miles and ten months later, with very sore feet, he was a founding member with Jules of the band Spot the Dog, playing bodhran and recorders. He subsequently discovered the side drum which he used to great effect when the band evolved into The Dawgs. He sometimes scratches his washboard if he can whip it out before the rest of the band can stop him!
